[Five is an easier person to go to than the others- after all, she already knows the cliff notes version of his history already and has proven a pretty solid ally regardless. Like Fern, she's had a darker past too. It makes this conversation a whole lot less daunting.
But it's not to say he doesn't still have SOME nerves about the whole thing. ]
Hey, I was thinking we should probably talk. I think I owe you the full story about everything that happened, back home. If you want to hear it.
Yeah, of course I'm interested in hearing it if it's something you feel comfortable sharing.
[Not that she thinks the past is as important as the future, but sometimes having conversations about it can be helpful for all sorts of reasons. And she thinks if he's planning on telling other people too, then maybe having the experience of telling Five will help him feel better prepared for that as well.]
Did you want to like, come over here or do you wanna just talk or text on the phone?
[Five is absolutely the person to talk to about this, he feels. Like Fern, her past isn't all sunshine and roses. She'll have some experience to fall back on, an understanding most others just don't have. That sort of thing is invaluable. ]
This is definitely an in-person talk. Thanks, I can be right over?
[There he is. She gives him a small smile, friendly affection and sympathy warming her heart finally seeing him in person again. She stands aside to let him through the door into her glass-block hallway. There aren't any moving boxes in this area, at least. It looks pretty much the same as before.
The way he always talks about Fern really has her dying to meet them. They sound really close for room mates. Maybe more than room mates? She might ship it. (Spoilers: she will ship it.)]
Okay, so do you want your belated hug now or later? I'll let you choose, but you're definitely getting at least one!
He steps through with a tired, worried little smile. Five might be the person he's afraid of losing the least here, but it doesn't make the telling any easier. It's still the worst parts of his life laid bare, and he's not looking forward to telling it- as much as he's made up his mind that she deserves to hear it.]
Hah, I might save it for later. I'll...probably need it.
[She already knows the basics. She's not going to abandon him. He has to remember this.]
Later it is. So, is there anything I can get you that might help you now? Some water or a soda maybe?
[She leads him through to the obnoxiously purple living room as she asks. There are a few stacks of boxes here, as well as two half-taken-apart Three-Headed Furbies (sorry, Varian, she forgot to warn for that possible nightmare fuel but to her it looks pretty normal!)]
They're called Furbies and I asked around for them because I wanted to find out if they had any sentience or if they really were just machines. But these ones are missing a lot of their mechanics, I think because they were already altered to give each of them three heads...
[She pauses after that, frowning a little in thought, looking to the Furbies then to Varian.]
Maybe I should take them to the kitchen so they won't be distracting for this conversation? Then I can grab your water too.
..I'm honestly torn between being morbidly impressed and terrified. Not sure which one is winning out yet. I'll let you know once I've decided.
[Because honestly, if he had something like this, can he say he wouldn't have done exactly the same thing Five has? Probably not. He smiles giving her a little hand wave. ]
No, no. It's fine. They'll...uh. Add to the atmosphere.
[She can't help but grin a little at that, briefly. Yeah, that seems like a normal response. She gives one of the Furbies another pat and then gestures to the purple couch.]
If you're sure? Feel free to get comfy, I'll be right back with our drinks.
[She just takes a minute to grab his water and a soda for herself before she returns and hands his drink over to him.]
[He definitely takes some time to circle her monstrosities, before taking a seat, still eyeballing them a little, lest they try to eat him. Once she comes in, he smiles, returning his focus to her and taking the drink. ]
Thanks. And thanks for um...being willing to hear me out. I know you got a good idea already but it felt right you knew the story properly.
I'm so sorry for this slowness on an important thread, sob
[She takes a seat on the sofa, pulling her legs up with her and crossing them over one another.]
Of course, that's what friends are for! And trust me, my closest friends back home have some pretty wild backstories, and you already know some of the worst stuff from mine from before I got here. You probably won't shock me.
Hah, yeah. I um- I admit, that makes it a little easier. It's um...less concern about you being so shocked you'll stop speaking to me.
[Okay, he can do this.]
Right um. So my world had these magical artefacts in it. A sundrop and a moonstone. They're...complicated and honestly, I could spend hours talking about them. But all you really need to know right now is that they sought each other out. My friend, the princess of the Kingdom, he was imbued with the sundrop after her mother had to drink a potion made from it when she was pregnant. The moonstone had sent out these unbreakable rocks from a few kingdoms away- trying to find her. Eventually, those rocks got to my village on the outskirts of the kingdom.
[She can't help looking a little confused as she listens, this whole magic thing is still pretty new to her and Kingdoms and Princesses sounds very Fairy Tale.
Translating it into her head into things she understands helps, and she thinks of it like how the Galactic Authority sought out the Raza because of their former selves being criminals.]
Okay. I think I'm with you so far... Wait, this was before you became friends with the princess or after?
[The magic thing is A Lot, he knows, and tries not to dwell or complicate it too much.]
After. We met before the rocks showed up. They'd made her hair... react ina way she wasn't expecting and had um...sought me out to see if I could figure out what it was about.
[Which was a disaster all of itself. He rubs the back of his neck.]
My dad forbade me to investigate the rocks. He...knew what they were about even if he didn't tell me. But I kept studying them anyway, I wanted to help my village. I um... I made this chemical compound that reacted in a way I didn't expect. Making this unbreakable amber. Dad- he managed to save me from it, but got caught in it himself. I couldn't get him out, so I ran to the city to try and get Rapunzel's help. I knew the rocks had reacted to her from another encounter and I... she was my only hope.
[He chews his lip.]
But there was a snowstorm battering the kingdom. She couldn't leave to help me, it would mean abandoning everyone else. So her guards tossed my back out into the snow and by the time I got home dad was fully encased. [His eyes go a little distant with the memory, it's something that still haunts his dreams even now, seeing his father like that. Recalling it is deeply unpleasant. ]

[Maybe that will be a nice distraction between all his Bad Stuff. He hopes.
He makes his way to her place knocking on the door. Once she opens it, he raises his hand in a small wave.]
Hey uh...here I am.

[ he stops Furbies, staring at them- before slowly raising a finger to point at them. ]
Are we just not gonna talk about those things? Just so I know if that's a thing we're keeping off the discussion table for the day.
[Five what the fuck are those. ]
